About us

Who we are

Helping Hand Sierra Leone is a non-profit corporation and shall be operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the parameters of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code.

Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa on the Atlantic Ocean where civil war took place from 1991 to 2002.  This war resulted in many men perishing.  Many women in Sierra Leone lost their husbands and some children lost both parents in the conflict.  Homes were utterly destroyed.  To this day women are forced to sell their bodies to feed their children.  Children who do not have either parent, are foraging for scraps in dumpsters to eat.  Children are also known to break stones to sell as gravel for money or resort to stealing for survival.

Helping Hand Sierra Leone is a charitable organization that gathers funds and supplies to assist the underprivileged children and women of Sierra Leone, West Africa by providing food, shelter, clothing, education, and job training.  As such, any money and supplies that we receive are utilized to directly provide these services in Sierra Leone.

Helping Hands Sierra Leone will operate nationally and have an international reach.  The financial aspects will be headquartered and handled in Austin, Texas, these aspects include the processing of contributions and the payment of bills.  The corporation will publish a newsletter, provide from an email system per Listserv, maintain an informational website, advocate for policies helpful to Sierra Leone, and support further developmental projects there.
